"A Day's Wait" summary

"A Day's Wait" is a story about a young boy who comes down with a fever of one hundred and two degrees. AS the boy's father reads to him so he would fall asleep, the boy is very detached and not paying any attention. When the boy tells his father he doesn't have to stay with him if it bothers him, he decides it is okay to leave the boy alone for a little while. When the father comes back, the boy will not let him back in the room for fear of him catching whatever sickness he has. Only then does he reveal to the father that he believes he will die because he thinks that a person cannot even survive with a temperature of forty-four degrees. The father then explains that only occurs on a Celsius thermometer, and the boy's temperature was taken on a Fahrenheit thermometer. After the boy finally understood he was not going to die, he relaxed and saw that he would get better.
